Introducing Comet – Magento Theme Framework

Comet Magento Theme Framework

It’s time to get real. Magento is bloated beyond belief. The learning curve is enormous. It simply takes too much time to customize a store to fit your needs. Magento is the most complex open source eCommerce platform available. Yet it’s also the most powerful, which is why most of us suck it up and deal with it. A quick Google search will bring up hundreds of complaints. This is a huge problem and it’s slowing platform growth.

Look inside the default theme directory. 578 Template Files. 38 XML Layouts. It can take months to design a professional Magento store and configure a myriad of extensions. After you finally learn the ins and outs of Magento thanks to Alan Storm and several others on Stack Overflow you may start to appreciate the flexibility of XML layouts. You may have endured the torture for so long you start to forget that things shouldn’t be this way.

Does Magento have to be this complicated? Can it be as easy to customize as WordPress? Can designers finally figure out how to theme in Magento without investing weeks of their precious time?

Comet Preview

Comet is an extension built on top of Magento to relieve some of these frustrations. It’ll dramatically reduce the time it takes to design a Magento store. It’s built for designers who want to get shit done. It’s built for store owners with basic knowledge of HTML and CSS who just want to move some boxes around.

Comet simplifies templates and provides an interface to manage page layouts. No more XML. No more searching in your projects trying to find a template within a template within another template. No more pain.
